Sponsoring a Child

Individual Sponsors - Above all, both schools desperately need more individual sponsors for the
children. It costs:

BUDDHA ACADEMY BOARDING SCHOOL

Boarders: 300 GBP or 450 Euros a year per child
Day Children: 160 GBP OR 225 Euros a year per child

SHERPA SCHOOL

Boarders: 300 GBP or 450 Euros a year per child
Day Children: 100 GBP per year or 150 Euros per year per child

Donors can indicate their preference for a boy or girl, as well as what age the child should be. Case Histories and photographs are then sent to the donor. Once children are sponsored they are encouraged to keep in touch with the benefactor with Christmas cards, photos, school reports etc. although the very young, particularly at the Sherpa School, are unable to send anything too sophisticated! Experience shows that these child-donor relationships usually last many years and help enormously to plan finances as they represent a steady flow of income. The Buddha Academy has 42 children needing sponsors and at the Sherpa School we have 52 (and 500 wanting to register).

These funds are very important for the day to day management of finances. With close to 800 children and 74 staff at the Buddha Academy and 223 children and 15 staff at the Sherpa School there is always somebody who needs medical attention with a specialist, a dentist or a hospital. (There is no free medical treatment in Nepal. Any necessary medical treatment at the moment has to come from the Emergency Fund)

Donating to our Scholarship Fund

which enables especially talented students to go on to higher education.

These funds are very important for the day to day management of finances. There is no insurance cover available the these funds are the last reserve of the Principals.

In 2009 We aim to raise £5,000 for the Sherpa Schools depleted funds and £8,000 for BABS.
